In the meantime, there are plenty of natural remedies you can try at home for a toothache. You don’t have to suffer from tooth crown pain. Relief is easier than you think.
Rinse with Salt Water
A simple salt water rinse is a great first line defense against toothache. Salt water is a natural disinfectant. Rinsing can help loosen food particles and debris that get stuck in your teeth and may be exacerbating your toothache. A good salt water rinse can also reduce inflammation and helps to heal any oral wounds.
To prepare the salt water mixture, stir a half teaspoon of salt into a warm glass of water. Use it as a mouthwash and rinse for a couple of minutes. Don’t swallow the mixture. Do this 3 to 4 times per week.
A cold compress can provide great relief, especially if your pain was caused by facial trauma or a blunt impact. Pressing something cold against your jaw where your tooth hurts will cause the blood vessels to constrict. This reduces inflammation and will provide pain relief. A simple ice pack will work. If you don’t have an ice pack, a frozen bag of veggies will also do the trick. Apply a cold compress for 20 minutes. Repeat every 4 hours.
Peppermint Tea Bags
Peppermint tea bags are a great way to numb toothache and sooth sensitive gums. You’ll want to allow the tea bag to first cool down to a lukewarm temperature before applying it to the affected area. Put it on your mouth over the toothache and gently soak it.
A slightly warm tea bag works well. You might also try putting the tea bag in the freezer briefly to act as a cold compress.
